News and Events
Dear Friends and Supporters of VAGABOOM!
As you all know, our fundraiser for our joint organization with Living Dream Arts, originally scheduled for February 25th, was postponed. The detriment of the recent budget cuts affected our Civicorps Elementary School in Oakland very heavily, and the timing of our fundraiser seemed to be a blessing in disguise, until the unfortunate event of having to postpone.
In our pledge to you all to help us with salvaging our Oakland school, dear friends in Santa Barbara, from the Macy Trust, responded with a most generous offer. The Macy Trust will match dollar for dollar on any donations up to $1000, plus an additional $1000 once we've reached the goal, so that we may keep this after school program alive!
What that means is that when you donate $20, the Macy Trust will match each dollar and in turn double your donation. So $20 becomes $40, $50 becomes $100, and so on. There is no minimum on what you can donate. Any amount is greatly appreciated.
We have been given a deadline of March 17th to reach our $1000 goal, and we are asking for your support to this worthy cause. Thirty (30) children will resume back their loved program of which Civicorps staff and parents have talked highly of, noting the impact our program has had on their youth in the past year.
To donate, please go to http://ihcenter.org/groups/vagaboom.html (we are still financially operating under our fiscal sponsor International Humanities Center)
Our goal is that we will be able to resume our program as soon as possible at the school and we thank you in advance for your support in helping us.
With Gratitude,
Dee Kennedy,
VAGABOOM! Exec. Director
POSTPONEMENT OF FEBRUARY 25 LIVING DREAM ARTS DINNER AND CABARET FUNDRAISER
We regret to inform our friends and supporters that the fundraising event scheduled for Thursday, February 25th, is being postponed. Despite a stellar lineup of performers and an enthusiastic response from the broader community, we have been unable to secure the use of Supperclub on terms that would allow a significant share of the proceeds to flow to Living Dream Arts. Since the purpose of this event is to raise funds for our local education programs and the Peru circus tour, we cannot continue without adequate assurances that contributions will be used for their advertised purpose.
The good news is that our team is already busy rescheduling the event. We are excited to create an evening that will thrill, dazzle and inspire while also generating a needed infusion of resources for Living Dream Arts. Stay tuned for updates and prepare yourself for an extravaganza worthy of this wonderful cause.
In the meantime, we are making an urgent plea for contributions to support two immediate program needs. This past week, LDA's Vagaboom! program was notified that massive cuts to local school budgets will force the end of our partnership that provides after-school arts education at Civicorps Elementary in Oakland. For $2000, Vagaboom! can continue to work with these 30 children through the end of the semester. And in just two weeks, LDA's Dreamtime Circus begins its three-month tour of Peru where 25 performers will volunteer their time and travel costs to entertain children and spread the circus magic to remote villages.
Our near-term goal is to raise $3000 to fill funding gaps for both of these programs. Every dollar helps, so please consider making a donation by contacting one of our organizers or using the "donate" option (major credit and debit cards accepted) at the LDA website:

We deeply appreciate your support for our programs and look forward to seeing you in person at the rescheduled cabaret event!
